Melissa Payne Baker is a local artist to watch.
Melissa Payne Baker spends her days chasing her artistic dreams as well as her toddler son, both keeping her creativity in full bloom. She grew up in Mississippi but now, along with her son and husband Rick, Melissa calls the Vinings area home.
Melissa has perfected various color, medium and texture techniques to cultivate her individual style. Her works can be found in art galleries and boutiques throughout the Southeast.
In addition to the exhibitions of Melissa’s work, she has also had her work featured in VIE magazine, Atlanta Interiors magazine, Southern Lady magazine, Traditional Homes and Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, among others. She was voted Atlanta’s Best Emerging Artist by Creative Loafing in 2010, Best Atlanta Artist 2011 in Atlanta magazine, Atlanta’s Best Artist 2012 in Jezebel and named “The it Girl” by The Atlantan in 2013.
“I hope in my paintings, collectors can see the love I have for life. I paint with my heart and soul. I get excited once a painting is complete; it is like meeting a new friend,” says Melissa.
Melissa has been a featured artist in decorators’ show houses in Atlanta, Birmingham, Cashiers and Knoxville. In Atlanta, she has been an artist with Trinity Spotlight on Art since 2006 including their Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus Galleries. She has participated in events at High Museum of Art High Arts Day, Huntsville Museum of Art and Columbus Museum of Art.
Melissa views her paintings as an extension of herself, deriving her works from everyday life and experiences. All of her works convey emotions that seek to touch the viewer and contain the heart and soul of who she is as an artist. She is represented by Huff Harrington Fine Art Atlanta and is currently working on filling galleries and attending fine arts shows around the Southeast.
