Local dermatologist combines artistic touch with decades of medical experience.
Dr. Alan Gardner is the Physician Owner of the Gardner Dermatology & Med Spa. He has helped his patients achieve healthy and realistic skin and cosmetic goals since 1985. He treats patients for skin diseases such as skin cancer, eczema and psoriasis. He also performs cosmetic procedures like Age Rejuvenation Laser Treatments, chemical peels, microdermabrasion facials, tattoo removal and skin sculpturing and contouring with injectables. The practice utilizes state of the art equipment such as Ulthera & Coolsculpting.
His practice, located at 2550 Windy Hill Rd. in Marietta, has 27 employees and is devoted to patient service, health and beauty. Dr. Gardner has a second dermatology office and med spa in Ellijay as well. A graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Gardner is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
Dr. Gardner says one of the best parts of his job is getting to know his patients. “It gives me great satisfaction to treat their skin issues and to help anyone in need,” he says.
Dr. Gardner and his associates perform a variety of cosmetic procedures, all with the intent to help people look — and feel — their best. “People want to know what they can do to fight old age without major surgery. We can enhance their looks, help them look younger and freshen the tone of the skin.”
He believes in a natural look for his patients. “If someone wants to improve their thin lips, we can make them a little fuller and create a pretty curve. I don’t want my patients to get that duck lip.”
It should come as no surprise to those who know him that Dr. Alan Gardner is also a celebrated photographer. “I look at things from a different point of view. I look beyond what the average person sees,” he says. “I like to put things together in symmetry. With photography, it’s all about the composition and light. When I’m dealing with faces, it’s all about composition and light.”
National Geographic selected one of his photographs as one of the top photos in 2009. He also recently won two gold medals in a photography competition in Paris.
Patrons near and far have bought his photos, including one of his favorite restaurants, 101 Steak. The huge panorama of the New York skyline hangs proudly in the dining room of Vinings’ newest steakhouse.
When not in his office, Dr. Gardner enjoys traveling and exercising his photography skills. “I like getting out in nature and doing landscapes. I see more than colors. I see patterns, lines, and composition. I piece things together to make them right,” he says.
Dr. Gardner is a true artist in many respects. He has dedicated his life to helping his patients become healthier and more self-confident, all with the sensitivity of an artistic touch.
