WellStar Health System Chief of Pediatrics Avril Beckford, M.D. Wins Statewide Physician Hero Award

The Georgia Hospital Association has awarded an incredible pediatrician for her work in making healthcare accessible to all children.  Dr. Beckford, who was one of only 10 individuals statewide to receive the award. Dr. Beckford has practiced pediatric care for nearly 30 years. She joined WellStar in 1995 and founded the Pediatric and Adolescent Center of Cobb that same year. In 2014, she was instrumental in the opening of the WellStar Pediatric Center in Kennesaw.

“Dr. Beckford is extremely committed to providing children with the specialized care they need,” says GHA President Earl Rogers. “Her efforts in expanding these services so they are accessible to more members of the community are remarkable. Cobb Galleria Centre

Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre and ArtsBridge Foundation recently released their joint 2016 Annual Report, which reflects a mission of serving the community, guests and employees. Based on an economic impact study performed by an independent consulting firm, Cobb Galleria Centre and Cobb Energy Centre created 1,470 jobs in 2016 and generated approximately $155 million in overall economic impact for Cobb County and the State of Georgia.  Approximately $8.1 million in sales, income, local option, hotel/motel and liquor by the drink taxes are directly attributable to events held at the Cobb Galleria Centre and Cobb Energy Centre. In 2016, the convention center produced a total of 669 events with attendance of 344,000. The performing arts center hosted a total of 270 events with attendance of 279,000. Lost Mountain Hosted Charity Event for Pets for Vets

Lost Mountain Tennis Center recently hosted the Lost Mountain Community Tennis Association’s 8th annual ‘Halloween Fright Festival Tennis Charity Tournament’ to benefit ‘Pets for Vets’. The tournament consisted of men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles, parent/child doubles and junior singles. A player’s party with a raffle and silent auction was held at Brookstone Country Club. The community supported the event through participation and sponsorship. Some of the larger sponsors included: platinum sponsor (anonymous donor), gold sponsor ‘Moms on Call’ and bronze sponsors included ‘Edward Jones’ and ‘Michael Douglas Law Group’.

The event received numerous donations from the community and citizens of Cobb. Thanks to the LMCTA board members and ‘Pets for Vets’ for the hard work! LMCTA total donation was just over $5,000 for this worthy cause. For more information: PetsForVets.com

Cobb County Fair Oaks Recreation Center Host Winter Break Multi-Sport Camp

This event will be held Jan 2-4, 2017. For ages 7-12. Fee: $40 daily / $120 for full 3 days. Campers will play or practice dodgeball, kickball, whiffle ball, capture the flag, soccer, basketball, flag football and golf.
