Looking Back on a Career with the Vinings Historic Preservation Society
2018 is here, and I have much to reflect on as I embark on perhaps the most exciting chapter of my life: retirement! Visions of cruises, beaches and family vacations dance in my head!
Eleven years ago, when I walked into The Yarbrough House that serves as headquarters of the Vinings Historic Preservation Society to apply for the position of executive director, little did I know what an exciting time was in store for me. My passion for our Mayberry-esque village quickly grew as did my desire to preserve the vital history of the area.
The list of accomplishments made by VHPS during my tenure is quite lengthy, but one of our most major accomplishments was succeeding in having The Pace House listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We later ran a successful $250,000 capital campaign that resulted in the major preservation of The Pace House, Old Pavilion and Yarbrough House.
Thank you all for your support as nothing is possible without it. Most of all, thank you for the many friendships and precious memories you have all given me to cherish. I look forward to seeing you all around the ‘hood!
